Three Unfinished Poems

———

Aerodynamics

Poems must be aerodynamic
Four forces in balance
Lift, resistance, gravity, and propulsion
Ruthlessly cut the resistance
Pare each word to support the structure
Propel with ideas and playful use of words
Gravity will take it all in the end

Dark Energy

Taking a random walk
Through the numbers I downloaded
From the edge of the universe
To see which ones I like best
The pictures we took
Of frozen red sound waves
Just what the hell is dark energy anyway
Pushing everything apart
The universe is expanding here too, you know
Though slower than gravity can pull it together
It’s a real crisis, you know, with that Hubble thing

Pictures

Where do they go
The people in pictures?
And how many years has it been? Ten? Already?
It feels like only yesterday
We do look a little older
It’s a shame we never made it back to visit
Now she’ll be watching down on us
From where it is they go
